Drive Angry (2011)

Summit Entertainment
Drive Angry is not for everybody. If your movies must have bullets, babes and booze, then this is right up your alley. Nicolas Cage stars as a man of few words who is on a mission to save a baby from an evil cult, which is led by Billy Burke with press-on nails. Cage’s character known by Milton is an anti-hero, much like Snake Plissken and Clint Eastwood’s “Man with no Name”, except with a fast car and a lot more firepower. In fact the movie is one long chase with Cage driving in hot pursuit of the bad guys, while he also has people chasing after him. It’s a lot like The Terminator; just replace the future with “Hell."

Chasing after Nicolas Cage is a man who will do anything to find him and his mannerisms often reminded me of the evil robot sent after Arnold’s Terminator. The actor playing this part, William Fichtner, is usually in small roles but here he completely steals the show and makes the most of his screen time. A few other familiar faces pop up along the way but Fichtner is the one to watch.

The movie is a little edgy and really earned its R rating so be prepared, but when it comes to loud action movie to watch this winter, you’ll have a hard time finding a better one. I’m giving it one star for Nicolas Cage, one star for William Fichtner and a third star for its excellent special effects. In this movie it looked like they actually used real cars, rather than relying on a lot of computerized effects.
