"Blind Spot"

There's nothing funny about the 7th episode of Justified. Well, except for one quick line about a "hitman guild." Instead, it's packed with plot that advances the storyline of Ava and the threat of Bo Crowder when he's released from prison. Ava is made a veiled threat by Johnny Crowder at the local hardware store before being ran off, then later there is an intruder in her house, and Raylan's hunt makes up the bulk of the episode. It also lands Raylan even further in hot water as he's now shot two people in Ava's house.

Not only do we get Raylan's personal manhunt against Ava's home invader, we're also graced with the presence of Boyd Crowder. Boyd is still portrayed as an antagonist on the series but I think Raylan should listen closely to the advice he's given. Raylan should give in, maybe even accept Boyd as his redneck Obi Wan Kenobi.

Honestly, I didn't see the "twist" of this episode coming, but I knew the threat of Miami mob goons would be looming. They wouldn't let Raylan just shoot one of their own and walk away scott-free, then shoot two more weeks later. I suppose I was just thinking this hometown Harlan sheriff could've been a fun recurring character but like he said, Harlan is full of assholes, sawed-off shotguns, and pick-up trucks. Maybe Raylan would be wise to keep an "enemy" like Boyd very close. Now while this episode was full of plot advancement, it still wasn't above featuring a knuckle-head criminal. The criminal didn't comprise the whole plot, though he did set it in motion as he botched the home invasion, and later let Ava escape. So while they're still using a dumb criminal every week, the writers are also doing it more creatively. I guess Justified will never not have knuckle-head criminals each week because they're nearly all of the residents of Harlan County.
